Better BIcycles

Hi Tim here to talk about better bicycles. While there are many bicycles out there that are nice , how do you know if it a bike is nice for you . Before you go shopping for a bike, ask your self what you want the bike for . Where are you going to ride ? How far are you going to ride ? What type of terrain do you want to cover ? What do you expect from the bike ? While some of these questions may seem on the basic side , they can help you narrow the field and save you time . So many of the bikes that are offered below 600 are providing only just enough to do the job .While many of these bikes are nice , they often do not meet the picture of what the consumer had in mind . Just spending more money will not meet that picture either as then the consumer is looking at bikes that are more geared toward the enthusiast . Here at Supersizedcycles, we have amazing bikes for sale . Basic and fun to ride yet quality that makes sense to the normal rider . Check out the Zize models and choose which one is right for you . Happy cycling , see you out there .

Health Care Reform

Hi , Tim here with my latest on health care reform . One of the greatest things we can do to improve our health is reduce the amount of stress in our lives. A great way to do this is to slow things down in our lives . How about riding all the way or part way to work ? I can not say enough about how good I feel when I ride my bike to work ! I am about to go do that and just the thought of riding to where I need to be excites me . While it is only a few miles, I feel as though I have done something for myself before I get to work , so I feel the day is already more complete . It makes me think of the needs for the day and I tend to there fore be more organized when I ride. As I ride in this morning I will think of different things then I would of if I was driving. I look forward to sharing more thoughts on the ride in -happy riding

Wonderful, inspiring story

It's Joan here. Hard to believe it’s September already, isn’t it? It’s been a great summer, and I hope you all got a lot of riding in. A great story was sent to me recently. I absolutely love it, and want to share it with you.

Recently, in a large French city, a poster featuring a young, thin and tanned woman appeared in the window of a gym.

It said: "THIS SUMMER DO YOU WANT TO BE A MERMAID OR A WHALE?"

A middle aged woman, whose physical characteristics did not match those of the woman on the poster, responded publicly to the question posed by the gym.

To Whom It May Concern:

Whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, sea lions, curious humans). They have an active sex life, they get pregnant and have adorable baby whales. They have a wonderful time with dolphins, stuffing themselves with shrimp. They play and swim in the seas, seeing wonderful places like Patagonia, the Barren Sea and the coral reefs of Polynesia. Whales are wonderful singers and have even recorded CDs. They are incredible creatures and virtually have no predators other than humans. They are loved, protected and admired by almost everyone in the world..

Mermaids don't exist. If they did exist, they would be lining up outside the offices of Argentinean psychoanalysts due to identity crisis. Fish or human? They don't have a sex life because they kill men who get close to them, not to mention how could they have sex? Therefore they don't have kids either. Not to mention who wants to get close to a girl who smells like a fish store?

The choice is perfectly clear to me; I want to be a whale.

P.S. We are in an age when media puts into our heads the idea that only skinny people are beautiful, but I prefer to enjoy an ice cream with my kids, a good dinner with a man who makes me shiver and a coffee with my friends. With time we gain weight because we accumulate so much information and wisdom in our heads that when there is no more room it distributes out to the rest of our bodies. So we aren't heavy, we are enormously cultured, educated and happy. Beginning today, when I look at my butt in the mirror I will think, "Good gosh, look how smart I am!"

Have a great ride TODAY!

Check out your bike

Hi Tim here with some tips on checking out your bike before you go for a ride . The first thing I do is to grab both brake levers while standing next to the bike and see if I can feel both brakes working . If you hold the front brake lever and try to rock the bike back and forth , you can feel if the headset(the parts holding the fork in the frame) is loose or not . After those checks, grab the tire and see if it feels soft and needs air . While doing this ,wiggle the wheel side to side to make sure it is not loose on the bike . Spin the wheels -are they straight ? At this point I get on the bike and take it for a little ride to see if the gears are working ok . Now I have a general sense of how the bike is and if it will take me to where I want to go .
The three things I encourage people to do , are,1) wipe your bike down , keep it clean 2) keep the tire inflated to recommended pressure( written on side of tire) 3)keep some oil on the chain .
Always do this after you go for a ride so your bike is ready to go on your next ride .
enjoy the summer out there -see you on the road

The Time Of Your Life

Hi Tim here with some reminders of why our 'Time of Your Life' bike is such a nice cruiser . On most bikes , the crank set is right below your feet . On the Time of Your Life (TOYL) the crank set is moved forward to allow your leg to move out in front of you for leg extension .This lets you stand with your feet more flatly on the ground ,thus more stable when mounting and dismounting .
Another nice feature of TOYL is that the wheel base is very long allowing for a more comfortable and stable ride than most bikes you might have been on . With its 8 speed internal hub , this bike can really go if you want it to and also go on dirt paths ,bike paths ,unpaved roads and of course on the street . Enjoy the best of quality and comfort on The Time Of Your Life .

Handlebars

Hi , Tim here with some thoughts on handlebars. It often surprises me that many people do not know that handlebars can be changed with out a great expense . Having the correct position while riding is very important for over all comfort . The first thing to measure is the width of your shoulders , or what is the distance between your hands when they are straight out in front of you . This measurement should be the same as the handlebar , so your arms do not go away from your chest or start to cross your chest. There are handlebars that come in different widths and you can cut down a handlebar if it is too wide .
The other important thing for comfort is the height of the handlebar in relation to the seat on the bike . Most riders that are riding over 25 miles a week will want to have the handlebars even with the seat height for comfort. Most riders who are riding less than 25 miles per week will want the handlebars to be a good 4" above the seat . Only if you are riding at a technical or performance level would you want the handlebars to be lower than your seat . Because of all the different bikes and body types , there are quite a few different types of bars .Here at Supersizecycles, we use standard bars with a few different rise options to meet the needs of most of our riders. We are always open to feedback around how the bike is fitting , so our riders can enjoy the ride to the fullest . So if you have neck or hand fatigue, get a handle on your bar situation . Let us help if we can. Happy cycling

seats

Seats
Tim here to talk a little about seats . Having the right seat is very important . A lot of the time people may think that bigger is better but this is not always the case . Sometimes if the seat is too big it can get in the way of the riders legs causing ineffective motion and possibly chaffing . The important thing to look at when choosing a seat is what the measurement is of your pelvic bone . Most of the seats we use in life are very comfy ,such as chairs couches car seats etc. In most cases we find plenty of room on these seats. We are also not moving dynamically while sitting in them . When thinking about a bike seat , think about the ability to move in it . The more distance or performance you want , the smaller the seat . It may seem that we are "hanging off" the seat at times , however if it is large enough to contact the pelvic bone on both sides without too much rubbing on the legs ,
it is often better on a long ride than a larger seat would be. If you are not going far and just want to cruise and take in the sights,
then a larger seat might suit better . Another thing to consider is the length of the set front to back . If the rider has large thighs , then a shorter seat would be better for them . Here at Supersizedcyles we have a nice selection of seats to help you enjoy your biking in comfort . Please feel free to check out our web site and asks us what the best seat for you might be .
Happy cycling

Pedals

Pedals. Many times as we try out or ride bikes , we do not pay attention to the pedals that our feet are on . Most pedals for normal shoes and riding are very comfortable . As such, as we ride the bike, we just do not think about the pedals under our feet
What many people might not know is that most bikes under 1000 dollars retail have pedals with less then impressive bearing races. What this means is that after as little as 1 year of normal riding , the pedals do not run smooth and are starting to have end play which results in noisy and poor performance for the rider . The good news is that the bike industry does make a number of pedals that far exceed lower quality ones . Here at supersized cycles , we understand the value of having not only a larger pedal that will fit our client's feet ,but also having a bearing structure in the pedal that will give the lasting support that our customers have come to expect from us .
Happy pedaling

Your gear

HI Tim here with a reminder that if you have not been out riding yet, maybe it's time !! Take some time to sort through your gear and make sure that everything is ready to go . Check your helmet that so that it is adjusted right . Find the shoes you like to wear . Clean out your water bottles . Look at your bike again and make sure that there is air in the tires . Wipe it down if it is dusty. Just make sure that everything is ready to go so that when you have a chance to go for a ride, you can just hop on and go instead of using half the time you have looking for things ! It sure does bring a smile to my face as I am feeling the breeze from the ride again . See you out there!!

reasons for our bikes

Hi Tim here with some thoughts on our bikes . Some people come to me and say that they were told that any bike could hold their weight and they know people who ride just plain bikes. While a normal bike can hold a lot of weight it can not do so for very long . One of the main differences with our bikes is that not only can it hold the weight mentioned it can do it ride after ride giving our customers confidence to ride whenever they want to and not have to worry about their bike being OK -We all have enough going on on our lives we just want to get on our bikes and ride -its nice to know that Zize design supports our needs .Have a great day and a nice ride

New! Our "Zized!" Electric Bikes

Hi, it's Joan. I am just so excited--we finally have our new electric bike available. It is so awesome--really, Tim is a bit of a genius. (Don't tell him that, though--he can get a big head!) I'm copying the Press Release we sent out on it--we're getting a phenomenal response. YES!! Electric bikes for heavy riders!

Electric Bikes for Heavy Riders Introduced by Super Sized Cycles

Super Sized Cycles’ builds on electric bike benefits to create the first electric assist bike for heavy people. The iZize holds 425 pounds and allows all riders the joy of biking while providing the helping hand of an electric motor.

Burlington, VT (PRWEB) Feb 26, 2009—www.SuperSizedCycles.com & Zize Bikes, the only manufacturer of bicycles for the obese, announces its’ iZize line. Joan Denizot, President of Super Sized Cycles and Zize Bikes, explains that “most bikes are not built strong enough for obese people. There is a very real risk of injury to the rider if the bike or tire crumbles because of the weight.” She continues, “Super Sized Cycles is all about providing the tools so that people of all sizes can have the fun and benefits of bike riding.”

Electric bikes provide a real benefit to all riders who want to use an extra source of energy. “For people of size, electric bikes are a godsend,” says Denizot. Because of the difficulties in carrying their body weight, as well as the fact that many very heavy people are also out of shape, riding a bike on anything other than a flat or downhill surface can be challenging. An electric bike is the perfect solution. The bike comes with a battery-powered motor that makes a dramatic difference for the obese rider.

“The absolute perfect thing about bike riding,” says Denizot, “is that not only is it a blast, but it saves you money, lets you move fast on your own speed, and is excellent for your body. The fact that it’s non-weight bearing and easy on your joints makes it ideal for almost everyone.”

“Electric bikes are great,” she continues, “but what are really wonderful are the electric assist bikes. These are bikes that are powered by the rider’s pedaling as well as the motor. We are not talking about scooters; we’re talking about bicycles that are moved by the riders’ pedaling and by a battery-generated motor.” By getting the extra power from the motor, riders will keep pedaling more regularly, thereby increasing their heart rate and making their ride a more aerobic workout.

“It’s really win – win! You keep pedaling because you don’t get exhausted, and by the regular, steady, rhythm of the pedaling you are increasing your heart rate and giving yourself a better, more consistent work out, “ says the owner and inventor. This combination makes bike riding fun and easy to do, no matter what the weight of the rider.

“The irony with electric bikes, as with regular bikes,” says Denizot “is that they’re rarely built to hold more than 200 pounds. A heavy-duty one goes up to 225.” With 2/3 of the population of the US overweight or obese, that’s just not strong enough. Depending on the selection, a bike or electric bike from SuperSizedCycles.com can hold 550 pounds. The weight limit for each bicycle is clearly stated on the website, so that riders know which bikes are best suited for them.

SuperSizedCycles.com sells electric bikes that are built strong. Additionally, Zize Bikes, the manufacturing branch of Super Sized Cycles, has adapted some of the Currie Technologies’ iZip bikes for their new line, which are aptly called “iZize.”

“Zize is all about attitude,” explains Denizot, the founder of the movement. “My experience is that a lot of people are tired of being categorized because of their size. So what if they’re big? So what is they’re scrawny? So what if they’re 7 feet tall? They’re people, and they want to live life to the fullest. This is the Zize attitude!”

According to Denizot, “What we’ve done is taken the strongest iZip bicycles, made by Currie Tech, and beef them up.” There are certain areas that are benefited by upgrading the parts. They have upgraded the seat, seat post, and collar, the handlebar stem, the tires, and the pedals. There is also a new, stronger crank which upgrades the bike from 7 to 14 speeds. These parts, which are built for tough, endurance riding, provide significantly improved strength to the bikes.

Denizot selected iZip bikes because she’s impressed with the quality of the bicycles they build. “We’ve had a relationship with Currie Tech for quite a while now, and they build a terrific bike and back it up. They are at the forefront of making outstanding electric bikes. Currie Tech is very focused on using safe, lithium batteries, and all of the batteries they used are safety tested, as are all of their bikes.” While not every iZip bike is a candidate for iZize, Denizot works closely with the team at Currie Tech to identify the best bikes for her adapted line.

For additional information on iZize bikes, the Electric Bikes with Attitude, contact www.SuperSizedCycles.com.

more on electric bikes

I'm on an electric bike role, and I want to tell you about the brand we carry.

IZip electric bikes vary in the amounts of weight and height they are designed to support. You'll find models that can handle up to 500 lbs, but you'll want to check the specifications to make sure you select a bike that truly meets your needs. These electric bikes can also accommodate many different heights from 5’ to over 6’.

Right now we are working on making some of the iZips we sell even stronger. Tim, my bike guru (you'll meet him soon, because he's going to start blogging a bit, too) is upgrading some key stress points on the bikes so they can carry heavier weights. Can't wait--we NEED this!

The bicycle seat is comfortable and the wheels are extra large. Some available features include extra wide comfort designed saddles with back support and adjustable comfort bars with grips. You can ride along at your own pace and get a much needed boost of power for tough hills. The more you ride your electric bike the more peddle power you will be able to add.

There are different models of the IZip electric bikes that offer you different features. Some models have storage spaces for you to bring along everything you need. These storages spaces are great for quick runs to the store and library. You can store anything you pick up along the way.

Electric Bikes are awesome for Big people

If you are overweight, a fun way to get moving towards health and wellness is riding on an electric bike. You may think that riding on an electric bike won’t allow you to get exercise, but supersize electric bikes are different. These bikes are made for people over 200 pounds and they combine muscle power with a small motor.

It can be overwhelming to think about getting back on a bike if you haven’t in a while or if you have gained some weight. With an electric bike, you can get back in the saddle with a little help. The IZip bikes work with a small throttle that you twist. This twist gets the motor going and then you peddle the bike at your own speed. This is a practical way to improve your health and fitness. It is almost like a personal trainer. IZip bikes give you the boost of power you need, when you need it.

A great feature is that you can adjust the power you get from the throttle. If you want a little extra help getting up hills, you can adjust the power. Then you can pull back and put more energy into your peddling. Electric bikes are a great way to start cycling and getting some fun, healthy exercise. You can be the envy of those around you who may be thinking the bike is doing all the work. But you will have the satisfaction of knowing you are putting your own energy into becoming healthy at a pace that is right for you.
